Continuous Improvements

In recognising that continuous improvement must become an integral part of everyday working practice, Graham Engineering Ltd (GEL) has made significant changes over recent times; demonstrating buy-in and belief in the lean principles. GEL has sent members of their middle and lower management team on Six Sigma Green and Yellow belt training as a means to oversee projects and reduce costs.

With an overall business strategy and vision in place, GEL are cascading SMART objectives into each area of the business with all main production areas being tasked to produce an improvement programme of increased work output and activity against key criteria.

The development of detailed Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) has been instrumental in ensuring a reduction in variation within production lines, and these documents provide valuable training tools when bringing new employees on line.

The use of Workplace Organisation or 5S is being rolled out within the business, with key cells being used as pilot areas and becoming workplace showcases of success to both internal and external personnel.

Future investment in training, aims to qualify employees in NVQ L2 and L3 in Business Improvement Techniques.
