10kw Fibre laser Demo 

The main benefits to manufacturing from using laser welding are linked to its reduced heat input; lower levels of shrinkage and distortion; and higher joint completion rate. This in turn may increase efficiencies, reduce costs and increase margins, making a business more competitive. The demonstration event at GEL will show the facility and equipment in operation, illustrating double sided root welding at laser powers up to 10kW to provide an understanding of the root face thickness that can be achieved in two passes. The demonstration will then go on to show the fill sequence required for a reduced number of passes on a 40mm thickness: confirming the benefit in time.GEL has invested in the following equipment; IPG Ytterbium Laser System, 10kW power (class 4 laser), 300mm focal length optic giving a 200 micron focused spot diameter, 4-way Beam Switch.The cell is setup with a Motofil 2 axis rotator with a 5 ton working load and a Fanuc M-710ic with 50kg pay load (High accuracy) that operates along a 7m linear track.

The 10kW Fibre Laser Demonstartion will be held on Thursday 4th September 2014 at Graham Engineering Ltd in Nelson with Lunch at 12.30 and then the presentation and demonstration from 13.00 - 15.00
